During his appearance on Barstool Sports’ Fore Play podcast, Thomas Pieters admitted to not enjoying his time on the PGA Tour, describing it as a solitary lifestyle. Despite potentially sacrificing a Ryder Cup return and reducing his opportunities to play in Majors, he remains content with his choice to join LIV Golf.
According to Pieters, he gave the PGA Tour a chance but found it wasn’t for him, citing feelings of isolation. He ultimately decided to join LIV Golf due to the significant financial benefits it offered.
Pieters admitted that joining LIV Golf would mean forfeiting his chance of creating a golfing legacy, but he was not worried about it as he valued happiness beyond the sport. He expressed contentment with having a favorable schedule and quality time with his family.
Pieters has refrained from taking part in political debates regarding the Saudi Arabia PIF funding for LIV Golf. He argued that criticisms were hypocritical as many things people use daily were funded by Saudi money. This season, Pieters was the star signing of the LIV Golf League, receiving a reported $10m signing fee to join Bubba Watson’s RangeGoats team.
